There's a sensational amount of places for you and your family and friends to enjoy without having to travel too far away from home when you live in the Citrus Heights area. You can go further afield to the likes of Yosemite National Park or the fabulous Pacific coast if you want, but you can still have an amazing weekend trip much closer to home at somewhere like Sly Park Recreation Area.

To get there from Citrus Heights, Sly Park is just over 50 miles, or an hour's drive in your 2017 Honda Ridgeline east along US-50 E/El Dorado Fwy, situated on the western edge of Eldorado National Forest.

Camping there
Sly Park Recreation Area has no less than eight family campgrounds, and with the Pinecone, Sierra, and Chimney campgrounds closest to the water, you can expect them to usually be the most congested at peak times. Jenkinson offers ADA accessible tent campsites that are popular with everyone, while Hilltop is a less congested option that's a good choice for those with larger motor homes. Hazel, Rainbow, Kamloop, and Dogwood, which you'll find located at the back of the park and away from the water, offer a nice woodland experience for nature-lovers. Finally, Stonebraker, which is to be found adjacent to the boat launch parking lot, offers a further four campsites away from other campgrounds.

Those of you with boats can make use of the two boat ramps, with the main ramp being near the main entrance, and the Stonebraker boat ramp a further 2.3 miles beyond the main gate inside the 5-mile per hour zone. Kayak, paddleboats, and canoes are all available to be rented at the Stonebraker Boat Launch during weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day. There's also a courtesy dock within the main day use area.

For those of you who enjoy riding or a good hike, Sly Park Recreation Area has more than eight miles of hiking, mountain bike, and equestrian trails to take advantage of. Trailhead parking can be found four miles past the gate at Hazel Meadow, and it's the best location for hiking to the waterfall. Bumpy Meadows is a second trailhead parking lot, which this time can be found just past the second dam on Mormon Immigrant Trail.
